HOME (Housing Opportunities Made Easier) hosts regular Housing Forums to address key challenges and solutions in Ventura County’s housing landscape. These sessions provide a platform for professionals, community members, and officials to discuss issues like affordability, housing policy, and innovative housing solutions.

Fire Resilience in Ventura County

This forum will discuss ways our residents, neighborhoods, cities, and County can lessen the impact of wildfires and rebound after an incident. The forum objective is two-fold: 1) provide helpful information, and 2) identify where we need to advocate at local, state, and federal levels. The three presenters will address:

Stephen Watson (Ventura Regional Fire Safe Council): Creating fire safe communities, home assessments, defensible space, codes, building materials, design, access, etc.

Joe Morelli (Ventura County Fire Department): The new Cal-Fire hazard severity maps, areas of responsibility, and recommendations to improve our community’s fire resilience.

Rob Obedoza (CA Department of Insurance): Current state of property insurance and rates, finding an insurer, costs, claims, FAIR plan, ways to get approval or lower rates, and what we need to know for new builds, existing homes, single-family, and multi-family, so that the insurance piece doesn’t derail housing production.
Your question, concerns, and suggestions are essential in developing a unified preparedness and response roadmap. There will be ample time for Q&A. Follow-up resources and presentations will be made available after the Forum. Lunch is provided. Your $25 donation helps offset the cost of the venue and refreshments.
