Any person may become a member of Housing Opportunities Made Easier (HOME). HOME membership falls into two categories: At-Large and Board of Directors.
AT LARGE MEMBERS
A “Friend of HOME”
Show your support for more housing opportunities in Ventura County and the HOME nonprofit mission by becoming a member. Membership is $50 for a full calendar year (prorated at 6 months). Friend of Home members:
Organizations can show their support for HOME and housing in Ventura Count by:
Emeritus Member: The Board of Directors may elect to bestow life-time HOME Emeritus Membership upon an individual who has served the organization in a special capacity. There will be no membership cost associated with having Emeritus Membership.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Board members are volunteers who lend their professional skills to help direct the actions of the organization, manage staff, serve and chair committees, oversee corporate and financial records, and help carry out the mission and vision. HOME has at least 5 and no more than 15 Board Members, each elected to a one-year renewable term, each having one vote. Board membership responsibilities, election process, and actions are governed by the corporate Bylaws. Directors are expected to attend regular Board meetings (currently every other month), participate in at least one Committee, and provide an annual dues contribution (currently at $100). HOME strives to create board diversity in industry niche, ethnicity, gender, and geography.
Executive Officers are elected annually from within the Board of Director Membership to serve 1-year renewable terms. In addition to regular duties as a Board Member, Executive Officers:

- Participates at HOME events, engages online, offers expertise and assists in effecting HOME programs and mission.
- Receives free admission to HOME Housing Issues Forums (HIF) for the year.
- Is recognized on the HOME website and designated as such at HOME events.
- Can submit comments and articles for possible publication in the HOME newsletter, website or social media.
- Can serve on a committee, participate in HOME work groups, and provide input into planning and speakers for HOME sponsored classes, workshops, and conferences
- Will receive video recording of HOME-sponsored events as available
- Can list HOME membership in resumes, applications, and personal web pages.
Organizations can show their support for HOME and housing in Ventura Count by:
- Paying for individual members
- Sponsoring or Hosting a HIF (Housing Issues Forum)
- Sponsoring the annual Housing Conference
- Providing in-kind donation such as tax and audit preparation, meeting/event space, printing, advertising.

- President – Convene and run the Board of Director Meetings including setting the meeting agenda; Oversees the HOME Executive Director
- Vice President – Assume the role of President should the need arise; Assists the President.
- Secretary – Assists Staff in creating and disseminating public notices, correspondence, meeting information (agenda, packets, minutes, notes), and corporate documents.
- Treasurer – Review and oversee HOME’s financial responsibilities including bank accounts, reports, procedures, annual budget, audit and tax returns.

HOME COMMITTEES include Members and a minimum of two Board Directors. Current committees include:
- Conference Committee: Members are responsible for planning and executing an Annual Ventura County Housing Conference. The Committee meets as necessary (minimum 4 times prior to the Conference) and at least one time following the Conference. The HOME Executive Director is required to serve on this Committee.
- Housing Issues Forum Committee: Members are responsible for planning and executing a minimum of four (4) Forums on a variety of housing-related topics. The HOME Executive Director is required to serve on this Committee.
- Outreach/Media Committee: Members help disseminate information about HOME and the mission by engaging with different stakeholders in order to build awareness and mobilize greater community participation. The committee coordinates HOME’s social media, public image, and community outreach. Efforts may include online and print media, press releases, social media, articles, ads, newsletter, graphics and general marketing.
- Advocacy Committee: Members assist in advocating for projects, policy and legislation that further HOME’s mission of creating a diversity of housing opportunities which are essential for a healthy and sustainable quality of life in Ventura County. Advocacy may be in writing, in-person, video or other means. Members work closely with the Outreach/Media committee following branding guidelines.
- FET-CT (Fund for Exploration & Training in Constructio Trades): A new charitable fund to provide financial support for programs that encourages career exploration and training in construction trades and the built environment. Seven to 11 committee members are needed to help with initial design and fund management.
