Moorpark’s newest affordable family housing complex, Charles Street Terrace, opened its doors in mid-March. The 20-unit complex features underground parking, Internet, spacious community room and fully-equipped tutoring center. Rent for two-bedroom units ranges between $489 and $977, and $960 and $1011 for three bedrooms. In addition, Charles Street Terrace is a 100% smoke-free property.
This tax credit property is was developed in cooperation with the City of Moorpark, Area Housing Authority of the County of Ventura, and several lending institutions and owned by Charles Street 20 LP, a California 501(c)3 non-profit.
"A number of ‘green’ technologies are incorporated into the design,” stated Douglas Tapking, Executive Director of the Area Housing Authority, "including water permeable cement, solar voltaic lighting, and solar hot water, drought-tolerant landscaping, and energy efficient appliances.” Designed by Lauterbach and Associates, construction and project management was provided by Staples Construction.
Applications for residency were accepted up until March 5th. Approximately 200 applications were received. Preference was given to current Moorpark residents who were income eligible (30% - 55% of Area Median Income).
The once vacant, trash strewn sloping lot is now an attractive asset to the community. Situated on approximately one acre, the 50,194 sq. ft. two story complex is located between the 300 and 400 block of Charles Street.
